Student literacy

TAFE Institutes have highly-specialised counsellors who cater for student needs. In the area of English language and literacy support, programs are developed to suit the student’s needs on an individual or small group basis. Professional counsellors and workshops help the student to develop his/her skills and confidence in public speaking, numeracy, reading and writing, exams and study skills.

Disability

Disability, in the context of the TAFE sector, is defined as:

  • A permanent, temporary or episodic disability that is attributable to a medical condition, psychiatric condition or sensory, physical, cognitive or learning impairment (eg dyslexia); or
  • A combination of such impairments that result in: (i) a reduced ability to access educational services provided by the Institute; or (ii) a need for support to overcome these barriers.’
